Brood One For The Bluebirds!

I know – it has been forever since the last bog, but I promise I will be better at posting. Just to let you know, I have been teaching photography at a private high school this year. Focused my attention on that.and had little time for tending to my web sites and social media outlets. More about teaching in a later blog. Lisa and I have spent a little time on the nest boxes, feeders, and butterfly garden in preparation for spring. Okay, mostly Lisa. Just in time too – the Eastern Bluebirds already have a brood and are working feverishly to feed them. I have not been able to see how large the clutch is yet, and may have to wait and count the fledglings.

We always enjoy seeing how many mealworms the adults pick up and take back to the nest box. We have seen Momma bird with as many as eight in her beak! This pair has always raised two broods a season. Even though we offer live mealworms, they still forage for insects sixty to seventy percent of the time.
