Art Show & Photo Of The Year Contest (Copy)

As most of you know I teach photography at Regent Preparatory School of Oklahoma here in Tulsa. Regent is well known for their fantastic art program. The photography classes also get to participate, and we have our own “photo of the year” contest. We have two classes of motivated students this year - beginning and advanced photography. There are talented and creative photographers in each group, and I can’t wait to show off the winners.

The beginning class is all about digital DSLR cameras, RAW format, shooting in manual mode, and learning their camera, and how to use it. After a few weeks of learning their camera, we dove into learning the exposure triangle (inside and out), and how to get a great exposure in three shots or less in manual mode using no meter. They learn about depth of field, composition, form, texture, color, patterns. and ,more! The basics of Adobe Lightroom Classic are tight as a way to edit, organize, and catalog their images.

The advanced class delves deeper into exposure ,using light & shadow, the math of exposure, the exposure diamond (for flash), Adobe Lightroom Classic, Adobe Photoshop, Portraits, using sped-lights (manually), using studio lighting, light modifiers, “seeing light, form, texture, and patterns”. This class has a heftier load of photo assignments as they learn about, product photography, fine portraits, fashion, and other fields they are interested in. They have created some stunning work! This year’s judges are Robert Trawick, Joyce Halford, Lisa Anderson), and myself. Here are last year’s Photography 1 winners.
